Problem Statement

The Arizona State Approving Agency was not meeting the turnaround goal time for the disposition of applications for educational institutions that can accept GI Bill funds.

Action Taken

The team conducted a process mapping exercise and a monthlong data collection process for each key step and then made three major process changes:

  • Simplified the application
  • Trained staff with additional skills to balance the workload
  • Reduced inspection time by introducing in-process controls
Results & Impact

The SAA team reduced the disposition time from 14 days to seven days, resulting in more approved applications for schools and training facilities, thus serving more veterans who are seeking education and workforce training.

“The Arizona State Approving Agency evaluates and approves educational and training programs that can use GI Bill funds, including accredited degree-granting institutions, flight schools, apprenticeship programs and more.”
